Some Fundamental British Values In Legal Terms

Very few folk have a run in with anything to do with the egal system here.  We go through life blissfully unawares of the complexities.  England and Wales operate a common law system which combines the passing of legislation but also creates precedent through case law.  The laws are established by the passing of legislation by parliaent which cosists of the Monarch, the House of Commons and the House of Lords  (as at March 2023).   There are basically five british values – Democracy; Rule of Law; Respect and Tolerance; Individual Liberty.    These fundamental british values underpin what it is to be a citizen in a modern and diverse GB, valuing community and celebrating the diversity in the UK.  These can be further broken down:  Domacracy is a culture built on freedom and equality, where everyone is aware of their rights AND  responsibilities.  Rule of Law is the need for rules to make a happy, safe and secure environment to live and work.
